Dhawan to play alongside Gayle in Legends League Cricket: Details
Shikhar Dhawan, the seasoned Indian cricketer who recently retired from all forms of cricket, will br participating in the Legends League Cricket (LLC). He will be joined by former Indian wicket-keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik. The league is a platform for retired cricketers to showcase their skills once again. It comprises six franchises: Konark Suryas Odisha, Gujarat Giants, Manipal Tigers, Southern Superstars, Hyderabad, and India Capitals.
Dhawan to play for Gujarat Giants in Legends League Cricket
Dhawan has been signed by the Gujarat Giants, where he will share the field with cricketing legends like Chris Gayle and Lendl Simmons. Gayle was secured using a Right to Match (RTM) card, while Simmons was acquired for a sum of Rs. 37.56 lakh. The team already boasts iconic players such as Mohammad Kaif and S Sreesanth. Karthik, on the other hand, will represent Southern Superstars in this league after he retired from Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Karthik to lead Southern Superstars in Legends League Cricket
In addition to playing for the Southern Superstars, Karthik will also take on the responsibility of leading the team. The squad includes iconic players like Parthiv Patel and Kedar Jadhav. During the auctions, they added Jeevan Mendis, Shreevats Goswami, and Hamilton Masakadza to their roster. Karthik's signing was a direct one, similar to Dhawan's acquisition by his respective team.
Other teams in Legends League Cricket
The India Capitals team includes players like Ashley Nurse, Ben Dunk, Dwayne Smith, Colin De Grandhome, Naman Ojha, Dhawal Kulkarni, and Murali Vijay. The Hyderabad franchise features cricketers such as Suresh Raina, Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Peter Trego among others. Meanwhile, the Manipal Tigers have secured talents like Harbhajan Singh and Robin Uthappa. The Konark Suryas Odisha team is led by Irfan Pathan and includes players like Yusuf Pathan, Kevin o Brien, Ross Taylor, and Vinay Kumar among others.
LLC returns with the third season amidst growing success
LLC is back with its third season and will be taking cricket to the Kashmir Valley after 40 years. The tournament has seen growing success in the last two editions with 180m audience across the nation. Former Indian spinner, Harbhajan-led Manipal Tigers were last year's winners with former Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera winning the Man of the Series title. In the 2022 edition, Indian cricket coach Gautam Gambhir's India Capitals lifted the trophy.
