Devon Conway completes 1,500 runs in Test cricket: Stats
New Zealand batter Devon Conway has completed 1,500 runs in Test cricket. The left-handed batter attained the feat on Day 2 of the 1st Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. Conway entered the match with 1,497 runs in his tally. He was dismissed for 17 runs by Ramesh Mendis. Notably, he added 63 runs for the 1st wicket alongside Tom Latham. Here's more.
Conway reaches the landmark in his 21st Test
Conway completed 1,500 runs in his 21st Test (38 innings). He averages 40.91 and owns four Test tons to his name. The tally includes eight half-centuries and a strike rate of 49.80. As per ESPNcricinfo, Conway owns 688 runs on home soil at 40.47. In away Tests, he has piled up 753 runs at 41.83. At neutral venues, he has smashed 73 runs.
A double-century on Test debut
Conway made his Test debut in 2021, against New Zealand at Lord's. He entered the record books by smashing a double-century in that match. Conway became the seventh batter to score a double-century on debut in men's Test cricket. He was the second NZ batter to do so. Conway also became the sixth batter to hit a century on their Test debut at Lord's.
A dip in batting form
Despite his talent, Conway has been in a downward spiral in Test cricket. His last century was in January 2023 versus Pakistan. He has gone nine innings without a fifty, scoring 12, 22, 11, 2, 1, 29, 0, 17 and 17 respectively.
