Know why Delhi Daredevils endured another poor campaign
What's the story
Delhi Daredevils finished, yet again, at the bottom of IPL table.
The issue for them was the horrible start to the 2018 campaign.
They couldn't recover after enduring a couple of losses at the start.
Inconsistency and lack of aggression defined this term for Delhi.
However, they ended on a high riding on youngsters and this gives them hope.
Here we analyze Delhi's campaign.
Poor start
The start for DD in every sense was horrible
Six losses in the first eight games of the season meant Daredevils were left with plenty to do at the business end of the tourney.
It was coupled with Gautam Gambhir's decision to step down as skipper and from there on he didn't even play.
One needed Gambhir's knowledge and experience throughout the series.
The team performed poorly and flashes of brilliance weren't enough.
Heroes
A lot on Pant, Boult's shoulders
Rishabh Pant was the best thing to happen to Delhi this season.
684 runs along with one ton and five fifties, Pant was Delhi's lone warrior.
It looked like other batsmen never 'showed up'.
Same for Trent Boult, who shined with a plethora of wickets and match-defining moments.
But one needs the whole team to perform. It did not happen for the Daredevils.
Captain
Iyer a promising skipper gets 6/10
Iyer took over from Gambhir in the middle of Delhi's campaign and he looked like a cricketer who knows the trades of captaincy.
He had a decent campaign individually, but Delhi were left with a lot to do.
The issue for Daredevils was the lack of balance in their XI.
But as a Delhi fan, Iyer displayed his prowess and the future looks bright.
Information
Shaw, Sandeep two future stars
One wonders why Nepal's spinner Sandeep Lamichhane did not make the cut from the start. He signed off with a bang and showed that he will be crucial for Delhi in the future. U-19 star Prithvi Shaw is also another positive factor.
