Deepak Chahar to miss majority of IPL 2022: Details here

    What's the story

Indian pacer Deepak Chahar is set to miss the majority of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 due to a "quadricep tear".

Chennai Super Kings, who enter the tournament as the defending champions, will miss their premier pacer.

The Yellow Army picked Chahar for Rs. 14 crore at the IPL 2022 Auction.

Chahar suffered the injury in the third T20I against West Indies last month.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

Chahar has been the mainstay fast bowler for CSK since the 2018 edition.

Skipper MS Dhoni banks on him in powerplay overs.

His absence now hands a massive blow to the Yellow Army.

It is understood that Chahar's quadricep tear, which he suffered during the 3rd T20I against WI, will take several weeks to heal.

The right-arm seamer could now miss the entire tournament.

    Information

    CSK await a final assessment

It has been learned that the Super Kings are waiting for a final assessment from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Notably, Chahar is undergoing his rehabilitation at the academy. It remains to be seen if he can recover in time.

    Auction

CSK bought Chahar for Rs. 14 crore

CSK did not retain Chahar ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.

However, they re-acquired his services for a mammoth Rs. 14 crore at the auction, making him the second-most expensive buy.

Notably, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals were also in the race to pick Chahar.

It was the first time CSK spent over Rs. 10 crore at an IPL auction.
