Highest wicket-taker in innings' first over
As per ESPNcricinfo, Boult has the most wickets in the first over of an IPL innings. He has 27 wickets in this regard at an average of 17.29. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who owns 25 first-over scalps in the IPL, narrowly trails the NZ pacer in this regard. No other bowler has more than 20 wickets in the opening over, with Praveen Kumar (15) following Bhuvneshwar.
Only overseas pacer with this feat
Boult happens to be the only overseas bowler with 50-plus IPL wickets in the powerplay. The experienced campaigner has 57 wickets across 97 innings in this regard at an economy of 7.01. Overall, only Bhuvneshwar (66), Deepak Chahar (58), and Sandeep Sharma (58) own more powerplay wickets in IPL. Meanwhile, Boult's tally of 48 powerplay scalps since 2020 is the most for any bowler.
Boult's historic spell versus MI
RR's clash against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 saw Boult dismiss Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir, and Dewald Brevis for golden ducks. While he sent back Rohit and Dhir on successive deliveries in the opening over, Brevis fell to him in the second ball of the third over. This was just the sixth instance of three of the top-four batters recording ducks in IPL.
Another first-over feat
As per Kausthub Gudipati, Boult has taken two wickets in the first over of an IPL match five times, the most. Notably, Dale Steyn, Praveen Kumar, and Umesh Yadav have attained this feat twice. It is also worth noting that Boult has taken the most wickets in the first over of an IPL innings since 2020 (24).
