Presenting the unique records of Rashid Khan in IPL
Rashid Khan is one of the most sought after bowlers in the world of T20 cricket. His leg breaks and googlies are a class apart. The 25-year-old has dominance like no other in both franchise cricket and the international arena. Rashid has also made a significant mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Here we look at his unique IPL records.
Best economy rate in IPL history
Having played 116 games so far, Rashid has returned with 146 wickets at 21.15. As per ESPNcricinfo, his economy rate of 6.73 is the best among bowlers with at least 65 IPL scalps. The Afghanistan talisman also happens to be the only bowler with an economy and average of fewer than 7 and 22, respectively. Besides Gujarat Titans, he has represented Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Only foreign player with this double
Rashid is the only overseas bowler to have taken 50-plus wickets for two different IPL franchises. He spent five seasons with SRH, from 2017 and 2021, and returned with 93 wickets across 76 games at an economy of 6.33. Since moving to GT in 2022, the leg-spinner has claimed 53 wickets in 40 games with his economy being 7.49.
Highest score while batting at number eight
Albeit in a losing cause, Rashid slammed a 32-ball 79* against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. He recorded the highest score for a batter operating at number eight or lower in IPL. Rashid hammered 10 sixes during his stay, the joint-second-most in an IPL run-chase. No other batter has smashed as many or more sixes while batting at eight or lower in T20 history.
Four-fer and fifty in a losing cause
Besides scoring 79* that game against MI, Rashid also claimed a four-wicket haul (4/30). He became just the third player to have registered the double of four wickets and a fifty in a losing cause in the IPL. Yuvraj Singh (2011 and 2014) and Mitchell Marsh (2023) are the only other players with this feat.
