KL Rahul owns over 1,000 Test runs at home: Stats
KL Rahul will have a point to prove as India and Bangladesh gear up for a two-match Test series, starting at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium, on September 19. The talented batter, who has been an opener for the majority of his Test career, is set to bat in the middle order. Here we decode his Test numbers at home.
An average of 41-plus in India
According to ESPNcricinfo, Rahul has played a total of 17 Test matches in India, hammering 1,031 runs at 41.24. Only one of his 10 50-plus scores in India was converted into a ton, 199 versus England in 2016. This, however, remains his highest Test score to date. Notably, the 32-year-old has not scored even 650 Test runs in any other nation.
Do you know?
Rahul is the only Indian batter to register seven successive 50-plus scores in Tests. Five of these scores came in India, all against Australia in 2017. His other two 50-plus scores came against hosts Sri Lanka later that year.
Over 2,800 Test runs for Rahul
Rahul made his Test debut way back in December 2014 against Australia. Having played 50 games, he has smashed 2,863 runs at 34.08 with the help of eight tons and 14 half-centuries. While this was his 14th fifty, the tally includes seven tons. Against Bangladesh, he has scored just 69 runs across three Test matches at a paltry average of 11.50.
Rahul set to bat at number five
Rahul is all but likely to bat at number five in the upcoming Bangladesh Test series. He hasn't batted at this position before. However, the star batter has 50-plus scores across four different positions in Tests - opening, number three, number four, and number six. His hundred at number six came in the Centurion Test against South Africa last year.
