A look at India's highest partnerships in T20I cricket
The BCCI has announced India's squad for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup scheduled in the Caribbean and the USA. India will begin their campaign against Ireland on June 5 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. Notably, India's last T20I encounter (against Afghanistan) saw Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh record their highest-ever T20I partnership. Here are India's highest partnerships in T20Is.
Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh: 190 runs
The 3rd T20I between India and Afghanistan at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium came to a dramatic end as it witnessed two Super Overs. India won eventually. Afghanistan leveled India's score of 212/4, with Gulbadin Naib guiding them to 212/6. Earlier, a 190-run stand between Rohit (121*) and Rinku (69*) lifted India from 22/4. This became India's highest partnership for any wicket in T20I cricket.
Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson: 176 runs
Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson earlier held the highest partnership for India in T20I cricket. They attained this feat in the 2nd T20I against Ireland in 2022. The duo added 176 runs for the second wicket after India were reduced to 13/1. Exploits from Hooda (107) and Samson (77) later powered India to 225/7. They claimed a four-run win eventually.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill: 165 runs
Last year, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill stitched India's highest-ever opening partnership in T20I cricket. The duo added 165 runs while chasing 197 against West Indies in the 4th T20I in Lauderhill. Gill smashed a 47-ball 77, while Jaiswal hammered an unbeaten 84 off 51 balls. The latter was adjudged the Player of the Match. India completed the run-chase in just 17 overs.
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul: 165 runs
Over the years, Rohit and KL Rahul have shared several match-winning partnerships in T20I cricket. They have 10 fifty-plus and five 100+ stands between them in the format. Their highest-ever partnership came against Sri Lanka in 2017. India slammed a mammoth 260/5 in Indore, with Rohit and Rahul adding 165 runs for the opening wicket. Rohit scripted records with a 35-ball ton.
