DC's Jake Fraser-McGurk scripts these records in IPL 2024
Though Delhi Capitals missed out on a playoff berth in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), their star opener Jake Fraser-McGurk made a significant mark. Playing his maiden IPL season, the Aussie played one breathtaking knock after another and shattered many records. The 20-year-old became a household name with his sensational performances. Let's decode his jaw-dropping stats in IPL 2024.
Highest strike rate in IPL history
Fraser-McGurk finished the season with 330 runs across nine games at an impressive average of 36.66. The tally includes four half-centuries, out of which three came under 19 balls or lesser. He struck at a jaw-dropping rate of 234.04. As per ESPNcricinfo, no other batter with at least 300 IPL runs has a strike rate of even 180. Travis Head (179.13) trails him.
Only batter with this feat
Fraser-McGurk completed his fifty off 15 balls on two occasions, against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He hence holds the record of smashing the fastest fifty by a DC batter. Fraser-McGurk is also the only batter with multiple IPL fifties in 15 balls or fewer. Overall, the swashbuckler smoked the joint third-fastest half-century in the IPL.
Third-highest individual score in powerplay
In the game against MI, Fraser-McGurk's score by the end of the sixth over was 78 runs off 24 deliveries. He hence recorded the third-most runs for a batter in the powerplay of an IPL innings. Fraser-McGurk is only behind Suresh Raina (87 versus Punjab Kings in 2014) and Travis Head (84 versus DC, 2024).
Highest strike rate in powerplay
A major chunk of Fraser-McGurk's runs came in the powerplay overs. He smashed 266 runs from 106 balls at an incredible strike rate of 250.94 in the Powerplay. Among batters with at least 200 IPL runs in this phase, Head (205.18) is the only other batter with a strike rate of 200-plus.
