Decoding the stellar numbers of David Warner in the IPL
Delhi Capitals will take on Lucknow Super Giants in match number 15 of the Indian Premier League 2022 season on Thursday. DC coach Shane Watson confirmed that senior players David Warner and Anrich Nortje will be available for selection against LSG. All eyes will be on Warner, who returns to action after a dramatic IPL 2021. Hence, we decode his stellar performance in IPL.
Why does this story matter?
Warner's availability comes as a major boost to DC, who will look to get back to winning ways against LSG after facing a loss against Gujarat Titans. The experienced power-hitter was one of the top-scorers for DC from 2009 to 2013. Warner returned to his first franchise in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction at a price of Rs. 6.25 crore.
Warner underwent a lean patch in 2021
Warner's stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad ended on a bitter note last year. In 2021, he managed to score 195 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 107.73. Moreover, SRH was also languishing at the bottom of the IPL points table. Warner was first sacked as the side's captain and later dropped from the Playing XI.
A look at his overall IPL record
David Warner is the fifth-highest run-getter in the history of IPL. He has scored 5,449 runs at a strike rate of 139.96 in 150 innings so far. The tally includes 50 half-centuries and four centuries. He led SRH to their maiden title in 2016. Barring 2021, he has scored in excess of 500 runs in each of the IPL seasons since 2014.
Joint-third-most centuries in the IPL
Warner has the joint-third-most centuries in the IPL (4). Only Virat Kohli (five) and Chris Gayle (six) are the other two batters with more tons than him. The stylish southpaw has won the maximum number of Orange Caps in the IPL (Three: 2015, 2017, and 2019). Warner has been adjudged the Man of the Match 17 times, fourth-highest in IPL.
Only batter with 50 half-centuries in IPL
Warner remains the most successful foreign player in IPL history. In the 2021 season, he became only the fourth batter to score 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. He also became the first-ever batter to register 50 half-centuries in the IPL.
