Manchester United extend David de Gea's contract till 2020
Mourinho was concerned whether United's most consistent performer, David de Gea would renew his contract or not. De Gea had signed a four-year deal with Manchester United after his Real Madrid deal fell through, and has been steadily holding fort as Manchester United's last line of defense. However, Mourinho can now relax as United have used their right to extend his contract till 2020.
David de Gea has been the saving grace for United
David de Gea is widely regarded as one of the best goal-keepers right now, and he has been United's only saving grace. With United's defense being poor, the Spanish international has been making miraculous saves, which has salvaged many games for the club. It's widely believed that United ended up in second place last season mainly due to de Gea's prowess between the posts.
Mourinho has opened up regarding de Gea's importance
"He's a world-class player, he's the best goalkeeper in the world and if our ambitions are to be a big club, to be a winning club, you need the best goalkeeper in the world and you need also some other players who are the best in the world", said the United manager after United won against Young Boys in their Champions League group stage match.
United are in quite a vulnerable position at the moment
Manchester United are not in a comfortable position in the Premier League, having played 13 matches and won only six while drawing three and losing four. Though they have managed to qualify for the round of 16 of the Champions League, United did not put up very impressive performances, and if this continues, it's not far-fetched to assume they will not progress very far.
