Kotla stadium to have stands named after Bedi and Amarnath
DDCA (Delhi and District Cricket Association) is set to inaugurate stands at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium named after former cricket stalwarts Bishan Singh Bedi and Mohinder Amarnath. This comes after DDCA started the tradition of recognising former cricketers. Earlier this year the Delhi cricket board named the main entrance of Kotla stadium 'Virender Sehwag Gate' and one end 'Ashish Nehra End'.
Two gates of Kotla to be named after Anjum Chopra
DDCA also announced that two gates, gate numbers 3 and 4, of Feroz Shah Kotla will be named after ex-Indian women's team captain Anjum Chopra. The cricketer-turned-commentator represented India in six world cups. "In order to recognise, encourage, and reward the contribution of women ..it has been decided to name a gate after the Arjuna awardee and Padma Shri winner, Anjum Chopra," it stated.
Requirement for the DDCA recognition
According to DDCA's rules, for a player to have a gate/stand/pavilion named after him, he should have played a minimum of 35 Tests. Accordingly, the board will honour the likes of Chetan Chauhan, Madan Lal, Maninder Singh, Manoj Prabhakar among others in the near future.
More such felicitations
To honour former cricketers, the dressing room of home team will be named after Raman Lamba and the visiting team's dressing room after Prakash Bhandari, the first Test cricketer from Delhi. At the upcoming 1st Annual Conclave, DDCA will also honour veteran coaches Gurucharan Singh and Tarak Sinha. Active cricketers from Delhi will be felicitated after their retirement.
