Jasprit Bumrah becomes fourth Indian with five-for in Day/Night Tests
India's premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah has taken his eighth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He achieved the feat on Day 2 of the ongoing Day/Night Test against Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Bumrah has become only the fourth Indian bowler to take a five-for in Day/Night Tests. He helped India bowl out Sri Lanka for 109 in the first innings.
Bumrah enters an elite club
Bumrah is the fourth Indian bowler to record a five-wicket haul in Day/Night Tests. Ishant Sharma was the first Indian to reach this landmark with the pink ball. Axar Patel and Umesh Yadav have also achieved this feat.
Bumrah attains these feats
Bumrah has registered his eighth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. It was his first such haul (Tests) in India. Bumrah now has two five-fors each in West Indies, England, and South Africa. He owns one five-wicket haul each in Australia and India. Interestingly, the legendary Kapil Dev also had eight five-fors in as many Tests as Bumrah (29).
Best figures by an Indian seamer against SL
Bumrah was the pick of Indian bowlers in the first innings. He picked five wickets for 24 runs in 10 overs (four maidens). Bumrah registered the best bowling figures by an Indian fast bowler against Sri Lanka in Test cricket. He broke the record Ishant (5/54, Colombo, 2015). The likes of Venkatesh Prasad (5/72, Kandy, 2001) and Zaheer Khan (5/72, Mumbai, 2009) follow Ishant.
Bumrah takes his 300th international wicket
Bumrah completed his five-wicket haul after dismissing Niroshan Dickwella. Notably, it was his 300th wicket in international cricket. He has become the 12th Indian to unlock this achievement. Bumrah now has 300 wickets from 156 internationals at an incredible average of 22.85. As many as 120 of these wickets have come in Tests. Bumrah owns 113 and 67 wickets in ODIs and T20Is, respectively.
