Coronavirus outbreak: David Warner shaves off head to show support
Australian opener David Warner has shaved off his head in order to show support for medical staff who is working round the clock amid the coronavirus pandemic. In a video posted on Instagram, the 33-year-old nominated fellow team member Steve Smith and Indian skipper Virat Kohli for the challenge. Lately, a number of eminent cricketers have been contributing towards the cause. Here is more.

"Been nominated to shave my head in support of those working on the frontline #Covid-19 here is a time-lapse. I think my debut was the last time I recall I've done this. Like it or not?" the video's caption read.

The coronavirus cases are rising frantically
The deadly COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) has so far claimed over 38,000 lives globally with nearly 5,92,000 active cases. Looking at such alarming crisis, a number of nations including India have imposed stern lockdown. The Australian government had earlier sealed the international borders with Prime Minister Scott Morrison inflicting an "indefinite" travel restriction. The total number of positive cases in Australia have climbed over 4,500.
Sports leagues have been adversely affected
The sports fraternity has been dented massively, owing to the coronavirus outbreak outburst. Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which was scheduled to commence on July 24, has been postponed by a year. The fate of IPL still hangs in uncertainty as the tournament was earlier deferred from March 29 to April 15. The Premier League 2019-20 season has also been suspended until April 30.
Quite a few cricketers pledged donations to fight coronavirus
Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar contributed a hefty amount of Rs. 50 lakh. Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir also released Rs. 1 crore from his MPLADS. The 16-year-old Richa Ghosh, who represented India in the Women's T20 World Cup, pledged donation of Rs. 1 lakh to the Bengal Chief Minister's Relief Fund. Earlier, the Pathan brothers donated 4,000 masks to contain the spread of coronavirus.
