David Warner commits to full BBL season with Sydney Thunder
David Warner, the retired Australian opener, has pledged his commitment to the Sydney Thunder for two more Big Bash League seasons. This marks his first full participation in a BBL edition. Previously, Warner's involvement was limited due to his commitments with the Australian team. However, following his retirement from international cricket after the T20 World Cup in June, he is now set to play an entire season with the Thunder.
Warner's full participation in BBL 14 confirmed
Sydney Thunder have confirmed that Warner will be available for their entire BBL 2024-25 campaign. The season kicks off against Adelaide Strikers in Canberra on December 17. Post this, Warner will join Dubai Capitals for the UAE T20 league. In addition to his on-field commitments, he will also contribute to commentary after joining the Fox Cricket team last year.
Warner expresses enthusiasm for upcoming season
Warner expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining the Thunder and playing a full season. He stated, "I've always been part of the Thunder. I really liked the environment last year (at the Thunder), I gelled back with the boys and I just love playing cricket." His commitment is expected to significantly strengthen the team's top-order in BBL 14.
Warner's post-retirement journey and future plans
After retiring from international cricket, Warner first played in Canada's Global T20 tournament for Brampton Wolves. He is currently representing Boca Raton Trailblazers in the MAX60 (T10) competition in the Cayman Islands. Despite a nine-year break from Australia's domestic T20 competition due to international duties, Warner made a comeback to the Big Bash over the past two seasons and has been a significant drawcard.
Warner's optimism for upcoming BBL season with Thunder
Warner expressed optimism about the upcoming BBL season with the Thunder. He stated, "This upcoming season is hopefully going to be a better one than last year. The group of guys that we had last season really brought a lot of energy, we had a lot of fun on the field, but off the field we gelled very well together."
