Solskjaer confident David de Gea will pen deal with United
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is positive that their star goal-keeper David de Gea will extend his contract with the club. David is in his last year of his current contract and the club is confident of securing an extension. The custodian is an integral part of the United squad. United are currently in Perth for their pre-season tour. Here's more.
The situation surrounding David de Gea
The 28-year-old David is set to enter the final year of his deal and will be free to talk to other clubs from January 2020 onwards. However, United resumed fresh talks earlier this month and as per reports it is believed that the Spaniard will commit to United by signing a long-term deal. United want him to stay here for a long time.
Amid PSG and Juve links, United want to sort-out matters
French champions Paris Saint-Germain and Italian powerhouse Juventus are believed to be monitoring this situation since a while now. United wanted to extend his deal earlier, but he kept stalling contract talks. The report added that United are keen to offer him wages in excess of £350,000 a week in a mega five-year deal. This will see him become the highest paid goal-keeper.
'He'll play and hopefully we can agree on a deal'
"He will play and hopefully we can agree [on a new deal] with David, as I have said a few times. That will be up to David and the club to announce when that happens, if and when," said United manager Solskjaer.
Retaining David is important for Ole
Retaining one of the best rated goal-keepers is a major thing on Solskjaer's checklist. He has made 362 appearances for the club since joining in 2011. He has also been United's best player in the last few years. Although, in 2018-19 he endured a poor campaign, where he was just a shadow of himself. But one expects him to get back to form.
How has the summer transfer window been for United?
Ole has made two signings so far in the ongoing transfer window. Welshman Daniel James joined from Swansea for £15 mn. Right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka joined United in a £50 mn deal from Crystal Palace. The club is believed to be working on another 2-3 signings.
