In-form Lankan spinner Dananjaya to get his action assessed
Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dananjaya, who picked a flurry of wickets in the second Test against England, is set to miss the third and final match of the series. This is a huge blow for the Lankans, who have lost the series 0-2. The spinner will be getting his bowling action assessed in Australia this week. Sri Lankan board confirmed the same.
Akila was reported for suspect bowling action
The 25-year-old spinner, who picked 8 wickets in the second Test against England, was reported by match officials for a suspect bowling action in the first match itself. Akila was allowed to play until the results of his tests were known. As a result, post the opening Test in Galle, he was allowed to feature in the second match of the series.
Akila's action to be tested in Brisbane
The bowler's action had to be tested within a time period of two weeks post the match referee's report during Galle Test. His action will now be tested at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane on Friday. On the same day, Sri Lanka start playing the third Test against England. Lankans would be playing for their pride, since they have already lost the series.
Sri Lanka include spinner Nishan Peiris in the squad
SLC issued a statement stating the player that has gone on to replace Akila. "In place of Akila Dananjaya, the selectors have included spinner Nishan Peiris into the Sri Lanka Test squad to face England in the third Test match." The 21-year-old spinner bowls off-spin and could be set to make his debut for Sri Lanka.
