Dale Steyn hails Bumrah, Rabada as complete bowlers in T20s
What's the story
Former South African pacer Dale Steyn has praised Jasprit Bumrah and Kagiso Rabada as the best of the best when it comes to bowling in T20 cricket.
Although he won't be returning to his coaching role with Sunrisers Hyderabad for this year's Indian Premier League (IPL), Steyn is still focused on identifying future stars.
He feels players like Bumrah and Rabada, who can deliver at any point, are priceless to the game.
Bowling evolution
Steyn emphasizes the importance of wicket-taking mentality
Steyn also highlighted how T20 cricket has evolved and how batsmen play the game.
He said bowlers need to have a strong wicket-taking mentality, particularly in T20 leagues where he coaches.
"You look at guys like Jasprit Bumrah, he's probably the all-in-all package, him and KG Rabada," Steyn said.
He further said these brilliant bowlers could turn the match around at their captain's request.
Consistency challenges
Steyn shares insights on fast bowler Umran Malik's consistency
Steyn also weighed in on the challenges of fast bowlers such as Umran Malik, who bowled over 150 kph early in his IPL career.
"It's a difficult thing," he said, referring to the pressure of performing in front of large crowds.
"If it goes against the game plan and it goes against the run of play, you're going to go for 60-70 (runs) and that's not going to do your team any good."
Speed management
Steyn advises bowlers to control their speed
Steyn compared fast bowlers to a Ferrari, implying they should know when to utilize their full speed.
"Just like a Ferrari has six gears, you don't have to use all six gears," he explained.
He gave this advice in the context of Malik's IPL performance, where he failed to be consistent.
Steyn stressed bowlers must harness their speed wisely and know when to use it for maximum impact on the game.
