Sourav Ganguly against ECB's 100-ball league
Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has expressed his concern regarding the 100-ball format, which has been proposed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Dada is not in favor of changing the T20 format and making it more shorter. The ECB is thinking of a shorter format for the IPL-style tournament set to start from 2020. Here is what Sourav thinks.
'Difference between very good and ordinary becomes lesser'
Ganguly has cited that a format of 100-ball will make the difference between a very good player and an ordinary one much lesser. He also feels one should not get to the stage where the spectator comes and blinks before the game ends. He added that T20 is a ride for the fans where they want fun and pressure situations, before a match-winning moment.
What is the 100-ball format?
The ECB wants the T20 format to be changed to a 100-ball game rather than the usual 120. The match will have the normal 6-ball over until the 15th, before the last over which will see 10 balls bowled. It is being termed as 'The Hundred'. Although nothing is finalized as of now. The eight-team league might start from 2020.
What Andrew Strauss said about 'The Hundred'?
Earlier in April, ECB director Strauss stated that the new format is being planned to attract a new set of casual audience. He cited that the idea behind this was to introduce the game to new audience as it is not for traditional cricket fans.
T20 becoming longer!
Strauss stated that T20 is becoming longer and longer day by day. Interestingly, as per reports, the 2017-18 season saw an IPL innings getting bowled in 106 minutes, as against England's Natwest Blast which took 85 minutes. The attractive BBL took 90 minutes.
