World Cup: Ponting feels Warner can be the highest run-scorer
The ICC World Cup 2019 is about to reach its mid-stage, as we have seen some brilliant individual batting displays so far. Although, it has been a damp World Cup with many matches getting washed out, but there have been fireworks in the games played. In the same light, Australia legend Ricky Ponting believes that David Warner will end up as the highest run-scorer.
Warner has been on top gear since his return
Warner has enjoyed a fruitful return so far in Australian colors after a 12-month ban. He had a successful Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 campaign and scored 692 runs to be the Orange Cap winner. The southpaw has transformed that form into ODIs. He has smashed two fifties and a ton in the 2019 World Cup so far. Warner has scored 255 runs already.
Punter feels Warner can go all the way
"Warner at his best is difficult to bowl to, I think he was back to somewhere near his best. If he keeps playing like that for the rest of the tournament, he's probably going to be the leading run-scorer in this World Cup," said Ponting.
Despite early struggles, Warner found a way back
Warner struggled to get his timing right and looked stuck despite scoring 50-plus scores against Afghanistan and India. But the left-handed opener was back at his best against Pakistan. He smashed a match-winning 107 off 111 balls. The positive factor from the earlier knocks was that he spent quality time on the pitch and got runs under his belt. Ponting has analyzed his struggles.

"We'd all seen that he (Warner) probably had not been batting as fluently as we're used to seeing. It was more of a mental thing than anything, he was just holding back a little bit and not playing with the freedom," said Punter on Warner.
