2019 World Cup: Vijay Shankar gets injured by Bumrah's yorker
Team India's tryst with injuries in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 has continued. The first player to get injured was Shikhar Dhawan, who suffered a fractured thumb. He has been ruled out of the tournament.. Then, Bhuvneshwar Kumar suffered a hamstring injury against Pakistan. He will miss a few games. And now, Vijay Shankar has got injured by Jasprit Bumrah's yorker.
Shankar suffers injury while batting in the nets
All-rounder Shankar, who was facing Jasprit Bumrah in the nets, failed to negotiate a yorker. The ball hit Shankar on his toes as he was apparently in severe pain. However, as per reports, a team source stated that there's nothing to worry as of now. "Yes, Vijay was in pain but it has subsided by the evening. Hopefully, there's nothing scary," the source said.
India will be counting on Shankar
Team India will hope that Shankar is ready for the game on Saturday against Afghanistan. He made his World Cup debut in the previous encounter against Pakistan at Old Trafford. Shankar picked up two wickets and scored an unbeaten 15-run knock. He will be counted upon as the sixth bowler of this side, besides making some useful contributions with the bat.
Dhawan was ruled out from 2019 World Cup
Dhawan, who had earlier suffered a fracture on his thumb against Australia, was put under observation. The senior cricketer was unfortunately ruled out on Wednesday from the rest of the tournament. Rishabh Pant, who was called up as cover, has replaced Dhawan in the squad.
Injured Bhuvi set to miss the next two games
Meanwhile, Bhuvi, who didn't bowl again after injuring his hamstring against Pakistan, is set to miss two games at least. Mohammed Shami will replace the pacer in the upcoming matches. The Indian management is confident of Bhuvi participating in the clash against England on June 30. However, if Bhuvi fails to recover, India will need to call up his replacement.
India face Afghanistan test on Saturday
India are currently fourth in the 2019 World Cup table. They have pocketed three wins so far with one tie being washed out. Virat Kohli's side will take on Afghanistan on Saturday. A win will almost guarantee their qualification in the semi-finals.
