Ambrose keen on England's bowling coach role
Curtly Ambrose, the legendary West Indian fast bowler, has expressed his interest in the role of England's bowling coach's position. Current bowling coach, Ottis Gibson, is set to depart as he will replace Russell Domingo as South Africa's head coach. With the post set to be vacated, Ambrose has said if he is offered the role, he will take it up.
England expected to name an interim coach
Gibson is under contract with ECB until the end of 2018, but it is understood that an agreement has been reached between the ECB and the CSA. This allows Gibson to leave early and England will be left without a bowling coach for the limited-overs matches against West Indies. It is expected that ECB will appoint an interim bowling coach.
Ambrose believes he has something to offer
ECB is likely to appoint an interim bowling coach and when asked about it, Ambrose said he could be up for the job. "If an opportunity came from England, I would certainly take it because I think I have something to offer," Sport24 quoted Ambrose as saying. "I would be very interested in returning to international cricket," he added.
Ambrose's enviable record as a player and as a coach
Ambrose is an iconic West Indian cricketer who took 405 wickets in 98 matches in Test cricket. In 1992, he was chosen as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year and was also inducted into the International Cricket Council Hall of Fame. He was the bowling coach of the West Indian side that won the World T20 title in 2016 in India.
