A look at defining moments of Ashwin's IPL career
Ravichandran Ashwin might have been exiled from Team India's limited overs squad, but there is no doubt that he is one of the best spinners of this generation. After not being retained by the Chennai Super Kings, Ashwin was bought by Kings XI Punjab. He has also been appointed the captain of the franchise. So how has he fared in the IPL so far?
Ashwin's IPL career in numbers
Ravichandran Ashwin has played 111 matches in the IPL picking up 100 wickets at an average of 24.99 and an economy of 6.55. In his 8 seasons, Ashwin has bagged 4 three-wicket haul.
Ashwin's IPL career took a while to kick off
Ashwin started his IPL career with the Chennai Super Kings in the 2009 edition. He played just 2 games and bagged 2 wickets in his first season, but those two wickets were vital for the Super Kings as they defended the lowest score in the IPL. From the next season, he became Dhoni's go-to-bowler.
Ashwin helped CSK to win titles in 2010 and 2011
Chennai Super Kings won back to back IPL titles in 2010 and 2011 and Ashwin was one of their star performers. The off-spin ace bagged 13 and 20 wickets in 2010 and 2011 respectively. He played an important role in CSK's title triumph. In 2010, CSK also won the Champions Trophy and Ashwin was named player of the series after bagging 13 wickets.
Ashwin's Pune stint was no less than a nightmare
After CSK got suspended from IPL for 2 years, Ashwin was bought by Rising Pune Supergiant in the 2016 auction. Ashwin, however, failed to make the impact and bagged 10 wickets in 14 matches including his career-best figures 4/34. His average of 31.89 states the misery he went through in 2016. He missed the 2017 edition due to an injury.
