FIFA World Cup 2018: Can Croatia overcome France in final?
France and Croatia are all set to fight it out on Sunday for the coveted FIFA World Cup 2018 trophy. The summit clash will be played at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. Heavyweights France go into the tie as clear favorites, but Modric-led Croatia can spring in a surprise. Here is how they can overcome France.
Croatia know how to get the job done
The 2-1 win against England, in the semis, came in extra-time. Prior to that, Croatia saw both their round of 16 and quarter-final fixtures go to penalty shoot-outs after extra-time. One thing is evident that Croatia know how to get the job done the hard way. One shouldn't write them off against France because of the fighting spirit they have shown in knock-outs.
Croatia need to thwart Kylian Mbappe's advances
Croatia were superb while defending against England and saw off the threats the Three Lions possessed before gaining control in the second half. Against France, they should be wary of the danger named Kylian Mbappe. The 19-year-old has been electrifying with his raw pace and dribbles. One way they can come strong is by closing the gaps which Mbappe likes to get in.
Coach Dalic needs to get his tactics spot on
Against England, Croatia played in a 4-2-3-1 formation, but with France looming next, they will need that extra man in the mid-field. Perhaps a 4-3-3 will work well against Didier Deschamps and his boys, who are strong in the central part of the pitch. Coach Zlatko Dalic will need the likes of Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic to come at par with French mid-field.
Perisic the key for Croatia
Ivan Perisic was the chief architect of the 2-1 win against England and he showed that determination is the way to go forward. Perisic can get into pivotal areas and be the creator of this side as well as chip in with goals. The battle against Benjamin Pavard will be the key. Surging past French defense is a task, but Perisic can unlock them.
