10,000 runs in ODIs, not impossible for these men
Cricket is a game of numbers and scoring over 10,000 runs in any format of the sport is considered a significant feat. Only 11 men, including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara have achieved the feat. But come 2018, a few others can join this list. Here is our list.
Former India captain MS Dhoni
Mahi is just 46 runs away from reaching the 10,000 run landmark in ODI cricket. One of the finest cricketers ever produced by India, Dhoni boasts an average of 51.57 and a strike rate of 88.42 in the 50 over format. With two more games left in the South Africa series, he can become the 12th cricketer to 10K runs.
South Africa's superman, ABD
There is no doubt that AB de Villiers is a cricketing marvel and he could register his name in the history books by becoming the second South African after Jacques Kallis to reach the 10k mark in ODI cricket. ABD needs 459 runs to reach the milestone and godspeed if he stays away from injuries, this feat looks very much achievable.
Number one ODI batsman, Virat Kohli
Indian captain Virat Kohli is destined to keep breaking records. The serial record-breaker has already amassed 9,423 runs in just 198 innings and is 577 runs away from the milestone. Currently, at the prime of his career, Virat will not settle at the 10k mark and will look to challenge Sachin's 18,426 run milestone. Kohli can also be the fastest to reach the milestone.
Universe Boss, Chris Gayle
We all know how dangerous Chris Gayle can be in the T20 format. He is already the highest scorer in the shortest format and can add another feather to his cap by reaching the 10k milestone in ODI cricket this year. The towering Jamaican who averages 37.23 and boasts a strike rate of 85.56 in ODIs is 580 runs away from the big landmark.
