Press release: Shaw in doping trouble
Shaw's urine sample tested positive
The youngster's urine sample was taken as part of the BCCI's anti-doping testing program during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match on February 22, 2019 in Indore. The sample was subsequently tested and found to contain Terbutaline. This is a specified substance that is prohibited both In and Out of Competition in the WADA's Prohibited List of Substances.
Terbutaline was not consumed as a performance-enhancing drug
Meanwhile, Shaw went on to reiterate that he had taken Terbutaline unknowingly. He wanted to treat a respiratory tract infection and it wasn't consumed as a performance-enhancing drug.
A look at Shaw's journey in Test cricket for India
The 19-year-old Shaw had a promising start to his Test career for India after making his debut in 2018. He went on to play two Tests against the West Indies and scored 237 runs. He has an average of 118.5 that includes one century and a fifty. Shaw got injured ahead of the 2018-19 Tests against Australia and missed the entire series.
