World Cup 2019: Tickets being resold for Rs. 11 lakh
The ICC World Cup 2019 is all set to start from May 30 onwards in England and Wales. There is a lot of anticipation among teams as they are figuring out the balanced XI and addressing key issues engulfing them. Ahead of the World Cup, certain platforms are reselling the tickets of the coveted tournament for excess of Rs. 11 lakh. Here is more.
England vs Australia at Lord's gains maximum traction
According to a report in the BBC, the World Cup organizers are planning to take legal action against these secondary ticketing sites. The game that has attracted maximum attention is the one between England and Australia at Lord's. The report adds Viagogo is reselling some tickets of this match for more than Rs. 11 lakh, almost 104 times the face value.
World Cup organizers monitoring the situation closely
"We are working closely with lawyers to identify secondary ticket sites which infringe our terms and conditions. We are taking appropriate enforcement action against them as required," said a World Cup spokesperson.
One can resell tickets in the UK
It is not illegal in the United Kingdom (UK) to resell tickets in relation to international cricket matches. This is despite the fact that the Cricket World Cup's own ticketing website states that no ticket should be offered for public sale. Sites like Viagogo and StubHub claim that it is the fans that set the price of a reselling ticket.
Sellers set their own prices, claims Viagogo
A statement from Viagogo claimed: "Viagogo does not set ticket prices, sellers set their own prices, which may be above or below the original face value. Where demand is high and tickets are limited, prices increase." The website divides tickets for all World Cup matches and bands into four categories- bronze, silver, gold and platinum.
Gold tickets for Indo-Pak tie costing Rs. 3 lakh
Besides Viagogo, StubHub is selling tickets well over their face value. One of the highly anticipated matches in the tourney is India versus Pakistan. The price of a gold ticket of the match is £150 (Rs. 13,795). But the same is being resold at £3,280 each (over Rs. 3 lakh). It seems that fans, who have tickets, are trying to make quick money.
