Ganesh brings wealth of experience to Kenyan cricket
Despite his short international career, Ganesh had a successful domestic stint with Karnataka in India, taking 493 wickets and scoring 2,548 runs in 193 First-class and List A matches combined. At 51, he brings a wealth of coaching experience from various levels within India. He will replace Lameck Onyango as the head coach but will be supported by Onyango, Joseph Angara, and Joseph Asichi.
Ganesh's vision: Qualifying for the World Cup
Upon his appointment by CEO Ronald Bukusi, Ganesh outlined his primary objective: "My first vision is to qualify for the World Cup. I've seen the dedication and hard work among the players. I'm not interested in the past, but I firmly believe that Kenyans possess the spirit of champions." His first two assignments will be the ICC Division 2 Challenge League in September and the T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers in October.
Kenya's cricket history and future aspirations
Kenya has had a significant presence in international cricket tournaments, participating in five consecutive ODI World Cups from 1996 to 2011 and reaching the semi-final stage in 2003. They also featured in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and three editions of the Champion Trophy from 2000 to 2004. However, they lost their ODI status in 2014 after failing to finish among the top four at the Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
