Sai Sudharsan returns to Surrey for County Championship matches
B Sai Sudharsan, the talented Indian and Tamil Nadu cricketer, has rejoined Surrey for their upcoming County Championship games against Lancashire and Nottinghamshire. This is not his first stint with the team, as he previously played for Surrey in a game against Essex at the Kia Oval in June. Sudharsan, a top-order batter, played his debut T20I for India in Harare in July thereafter.

The forthcoming County Championship matches will serve as valuable practice for Sudharsan, who will also take part in the Duleep Trophy, starting September 5. The budding batter will represent Team C, with Ruturaj Gaikwad leading the side. Notably, his county tenure will conclude on September 1 after an away match at Trent Bridge. Sudharsan is not featuring in the ongoing Buchi Babu red-ball tournament.
A look at Sudharsan's cricket journey
Sudharsan made his domestic cricket debut in 2021. Gujarat Titans then acquired Sudharsan for Rs. 20 lakh in the IPL 2022 auction. He played eight matches in 2023, having slammed 362 runs at 51.71. The left-handed batter further slammed 527 runs in 12 innings at a strike-rate of 141.28 in IPL 2024. Sudharsan smashed a scintillating 96 in the 2023 IPL final against Chennai Super Kings. He became the second-youngest to do so in an IPL final.
Fourth Indian opener with this feat
Sudharsan made his India debut during the South Africa series in 2023. He starred for India in the 1st ODI against South Africa at the New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, having smashed an unbeaten 55 as the Men in Blue chased down 117 in just 16.4 overs. The experienced Shreyas Iyer shared a crucial partnership with him in the chase. Sudharsan has become the fourth Indian opener to score 50+ runs on ODI debut.
