Jos Buttler hopes for a shortened IPL 2020: Details here
England cricketer Jos Buttler is hoping for at least a curtailed Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 this season. However, the Rajasthan Royals player is aware that it would be difficult to conduct the "massive tournament" in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. The coronavirus outbreak forced the postponement of the IPL and there is a wave of uncertainty. Here's more.
The current situation regarding IPL 2020
The IPL 2020 was originally scheduled to start on March 29 in Mumbai but it was postponed to April 15. The nation is currently observing a 21-day lockdown period until April 14. This is set to see the IPL get further postponed. A BCCI official had claimed recently that IPL 13 could happen from first week of May if things get sorted.
No news at the moment, says Buttler on IPL
Buttler said there is no news at the moment and IPL 2020 might not be possible. "No news at the moment. We saw, initially, that it was going to be postponed. It's very hard to see this changing in the immediate future, so I don't see that as a possibility at the moment," Buttler said in a Sky Sports podcast.
'I'm trying to use self-isolation time as a positive factor'
Buttler claimed he is trying to use the self-isolation period in a positive factor. "The calendar is always so busy, so you're trying to find times when you can get a bit of a break, so I'm trying to use the time as a positive - although, of course, it's really unfortunate circumstances and very tough for everyone.
Buttler bats for a shortened tournament
Buttler added that IPL is a massive tournament and he hopes it could a shortened affair. "Obviously, it's such a massive tournament for world cricket, so hopefully some of it can go ahead - perhaps a shortened tournament," he said.
