Indian cricket team's senior opening batsman Rohit Sharma became the latest sports personality to come forward and contribute in wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The deadly virus has claimed more than 37,000 lives with all sport activities suspended or postponed. In India, the government imposed a 21-day lockdown as cases keep increasing. A look at Rohit Sharma's contributions
The limited-overs vice-captain said he has donated Rs. 45 lakh to Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund), Rs. 25 lakh to Chief Minister's Relief Fund for Maharashtra. Also, Rohit has chipped in with Rs. 5 lakh to Zomato Feeding India and Rs. 5 lakh towards welfare of stray dogs.

The 32-year-old also said that we need our country back on feet and the onus is on us. "We need our country back on feet & the onus is on us. I've done my bit to donate 45lakhs to #PMCaresFunds, 25lakhs to #CMReliefFund Maharashtra, 5lakhs to @FeedingIndia and 5lakhs to #WelfareOfStrayDogs.Let's get behind our leaders and support them," Rohit tweeted.
Tendulkar donated Rs. 50 lakh recently
Recently, Sachin Tendulkar donated Rs. 50 lakh to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund and Chief Minister's Relief Fund. "Sachin Tendulkar decided to contribute Rs. 25 lakh each to Prime Minister's Relief Fund and Chief Minister's Relief Fund in his bid to join the fight against COVID-19. It was his decision that he wanted to contribute to both funds," a source told PTI.
Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma pledge support to help fight coronavirus
On Monday, Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma offered support to the PM-CARES Fund and the Maharashtra Chief Minister Relief Fund. "Anushka and I are pledging our support towards PM-CARES Fund & the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (Maharashtra). Our hearts are breaking looking at suffering & we hope our contribution, helps easing the pain of our fellow citizens," Kohli tweeted.
Indian cricketers extend support towards the cause
A number of eminent cricketers have stepped forward in the past few days. On Saturday, Ajinkya Rahane donated Rs. 10 lakh towards Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The 16-year-old Richa Ghosh, who represented India in the Women's T20 World Cup, donated Rs. 1 lakh to the Bengal Chief Minister's Relief Fund. Earlier, the Pathan brothers donated 4,000 masks to contain the spread of coronavirus.
