Two-match ban for Ambati Rayudu for arguing with umpires
Hyderabad team captain, Ambati Rayudu has been handed a two-match suspension for breaching the BCCI's code of conduct during Hyderabad's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Karnataka. Rayudu admitted to the charges levelled by the on-field umpires and the third umpire. This means he will miss playing the first two matches for his side in the Vijay Hazare Trophy which begins on 5 February.
Umpiring error
In the match between Hyderabad and Karnataka, during Karnataka's innings, Hyderabad's player Mehdi Hassan stepped on the ropes while fielding, which the on-field umpires failed to spot. This resulted in only two runs being awarded to Karnataka side which ended the innings 203/5. After Karnataka skipper's brief discussion with the officials, two more runs were added to the total making it 205.
What led to Rayudu's argument with the umpire?
Ambati Rayudu got into an argument with the umpire for adding two runs to the target before the start of Hyderabad's innings. As fate would have it, Hyderabad scored 203/9, thus losing to Karnataka by a margin of two runs. Hyderabad side refused to leave the field asking for a "Super Over" to be played despite the official signalling a win for Karnataka.
Rayudu's contention
"I'm sure of the rules. If he (umpire) had changed (the score) immediately then it would have been perfect. Even if somebody gets out and you come inside and see that it's not out, you don't call the person back. Even in case of a no-ball not correctly called, you cannot call somebody back or add the scores."
