Football: Conte urges Chelsea to change personnel
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte breathed a huge sigh of relief with the club getting past the line against Manchester United in the FA Cup finale. Conte feels the defensive display against United was a necessity due to the players he has in his kitty. He opined that the club can play much better and served a warning to them. Here's more about that.
Conte feels defensive approach could have worked well
The Italian manager feels playing an open game is what cost them a top four place. He urged that defensive way is what is needed at Chelsea. This would help them to do well. Chelsea had defensive woes this season and conceded 3+ goals several times. The defensive ploy did work against United and it eventually helped them win their only silverware this season.
Chelsea must change many players, warns Conte
Conte is a manager who knows that the Blues need to do away with many players and get in suitable replacements. Besides winning the FA Cup, the club underachieved in 2017/18. Conte, if given time and support, could help the side fix their issues and become more effective. The FA Cup gives him breathing space especially since everyone wanted him sacked.
Chelsea's transfer policy a joke!
This season was bound to be a failure for Chelsea, given the time they had in the transfer market. The issue with Diego Costa was just the start. They made some desperate signings especially in midfield. Letting go Matic was another bad decision. Defensive choices were haphazard at times. In order to challenge Manchester City, they need world class players to support Eden Hazard.
What next for Conte?
Although reports state that he could be on the move, the question lies as to where. There is no dream vacancy at the moment in a big club. Luis Enrique could be a possibility to replace Conte. But the feeling is Chelsea might retain him.
