Colin Munro's record breaking century
Sport is all about breaking new records; there is always a first time, to everything. After today's innings, Colin Munro holds the bragging rights when it comes to three T20I centuries. The New Zealander became the first player to slam three T20I centuries during the 119 run victory against West Indies in the final T20I. Here's the list of records broken by Colin Munro.
New Zealand thrash West Indies to seal series
The left handed batsman's quick fire 53-ball 104, helped New Zealand post a mammoth total of 243 for 5. Colin Munro and Martin Guptill put together a record breaking opening stand of 136-runs. The Windies, in reply, lacked the firepower and were bundled out for just 124 ending their tour of New Zealand without a single victory.
First man to three T20I hundreds
Colin Munro's third T20I hundred puts him ahead of countryman Brendon McCullum, India's dashing opener Rohit Sharma, Evin Lewis and even T20 cricket's most destructive batsman, Chris Gayle, all of them have scored two T20I hundreds till now. Munro's 53 ball 104 run knock featured three boundaries and ten sixes.
Munro at his devastating best
Munro's maiden T20I hundred came almost a year ago in Bangladesh when he smashed a 54 ball 101. His second T20I hundred was the unbeaten 109 against India in November.
World record
New Zealand's biggest ever triumph
New Zealand's 119-run triumph is their biggest every victory in terms of runs eclipsing their previous best of 95-run win over Pakistan in January 2016. This is also the third biggest victory, after Sri Lanka's 172-run win over Kenya at Johannesburg in 2007 and South Africa's 139-run triumph over minnows Scotland at The Oval in 2009.
Fastest T20I hundred by New Zealander
Munro's heroics also helped New Zealand leapfrog Pakistan to become the number 1 ranked T20 international team in the world. The left handed batsman's knock is the fastest century by a New Zealander in T20Is, reaching the landmark in 47 balls. The previous best was Brendon McCullum, who took 50 balls to achieve the feat.
