#GamingBytes- Call of Duty: Blackout caps PC frame rate
Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is one of the most anticipated games, coming this month. It is bringing the Battle Royale genre into the franchise for the first time. Titled Blackout, it received largely positive reviews during its beta testing period. However, game studio Treyarch announced that it would cap the frame rate for Blackout at 120 fps. Read all about it here.
A risky move by developers
Most gamers prefer high frame rates which ensure the smoother running of the game. This is one of the complaints which popular Battle Royale PUBG also faces. In face of gaming trends, Blackout's choice of capping frame rates at 120 fps for PC seems like a risky move. However, the game developer fully expected a blowback and justified its decision for capping frame rates.
Slow and steady makes a game
Treyarch expressed the commitment to keeping uncapped frame rates for PC and said it would gradually roll out changes. Since frame rates have an effect on servers, it is trying to ensure every player has a smooth gameplay experience by capping it to 120. Once servers are stable it will notch it up to 144 fps and uncap them a few days after launch.
Can't hustle a hustler
Although Treyarch might face some immediate criticism, the reasoning has to be lauded. Smoother gameplay for every user is the duty of developers. More importantly, unlike other developers, it did not use the excuse of making the game more 'cinematic' by lowering frame rates. Nonetheless, if gamers are really dying for uncapped frame rates, they can try Black Ops 4's multiplayer and zombie modes.
