Coco Gauff ends association with coach Brad Gilbert: Details here
Women's tennis star, Coco Gauff, currently ranked sixth in the world, has parted ways with her coach Brad Gilbert. This decision comes after a disappointing fourth-round exit at the 2024 US Open. Despite winning her first Grand Slam under his guidance last year, Gauff has been struggling of late. Signs of friction between the two were visible during Wimbledon where she expressed frustration toward him.
Gilbert reflects on coaching journey with Gauff
Gilbert publicly announced the split on Wednesday. "Thanks to @CocoGauff and the entire team for an absolutely amazing summer run in 2023 and for 14 months of incredible team effort," he said. Gilbert praised Gauff's potential despite the differences. "Coco, at just 20 years young, your future is incredibly bright," he wrote in his social media post.
Gauff's performance and coaching changes
Gilbert joined Gauff's over two years ago and took over as her coach 10 months later. Gauff regined supreme at the Citi Open, Cincinnati Open, and the US Open under Gilbert's tutelage. Gilbert was left solely in charge of Gauff after the latter parted ways with her primary coach. The former US Open Champion also faced early exits in several tournaments, including Paris Olympics and National Bank Open in Toronto.
