Let people judge India's Test team, CoA tells coach Shastri
It was during India's tour of England this year, when head coach Ravi Shastri had lauded Virat Kohli-led Test side to be the best Indian team in the last 15-20 years. Shastri's statement had received a lot of flak from fans as well as former Indian players. Now the Committee of Administrators is believed to have come down hard on Shastri for his comments.
The CoA gives a stern reply to Shastri
The CoA took note of Shastri's comments and in a recent meeting in Hyderabad, the body gave the coach a stern reply. An official present in the meeting told PTI that Shastri complained about the Indian media before praising his side. "When Ravi went on about how great this current team is, one of the CoA members just cut him short," the official said.
Let people be the judge, CoA to Shastri
"The CoA member told him, 'Let's stick to the agenda of the meeting and discuss Australia tour policies. You don't decide if the team is the best travelling side in the world. Let people be the judge'," the official added.
What did Shastri say back in September?
In September, Shastri jumped in to defend the Test team and hailed the side as the 'best Indian outfit in last 15-20 years'. The comments had come after India lost another Test series away from home, against the Three Lions, in England. The coach had claimed the Kohli-led side has performed really well in overseas tours, something that previous Indian teams never achieved.
Shastri's comments in England
Shastri had said, "The endeavour is to travel well, compete and win. I can't see any other Indian team in the last 15-20 years that has had the same run in such a short time, and you have had some great players playing then."
Gavaskar, Dada had lashed out at Shastri
Shastri's comments didn't go well with Sunil Gavaskar. The former Indian skipper stated that teams in 1980s won abroad and then praised Rahul Dravid's team, which won Tests overseas in 2000s. Sourav Ganguly, who had led India to several memorable away victories laughed at Shastri and called him immature. He also added that these days nobody pays any attention to what Shastri says.
