Vinod Rai led-CoA wants BCCI officials axed

    What's the story

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) continues to remain at loggerheads with BCCI's office-bearers and now seeks their removal.

The CoA cited that as per the constitution of BCCI, the office bearers' tenure is coming to an end and hence they should be removed.

It has also asked for Supreme Court's direction on having the Annual General Meeting without formal adoption of the new constitution.

    At loggerheads

CoA demands elections for these posts

CoA members Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji filed a status report in the Supreme Court.

In the status report, they have demanded fresh elections for the posts of office-bearers as well as axing of the current acting president CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry.

Further, the CoA wants IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla gone, since he has also outlived his tenure.

    Data

CoA cites Rule 15 (i) of BCCI's Constitution

The rule states that "The election of Office Bearers and vice-presidents shall be held at the AGM of the Board every year. The office bearers and vice president so elected will hold office for three years."

    Relationship turned sour

CoA and BCCI officials have been at loggerheads

The relationship between office-bearers and CoA turned sour after the SC-appointed members started accusing the BCCI officials of secrecy and delaying implementation of Lodha reforms.

As per Vinod Rai, the BCCI officials have time and again not kept the CoA in the loop, while taking decisions.

According to the existing constitution, the terms of all office-bearers will end on March 1, 2018.

    Trouble ahead

BCCI officials to challenge CoA's demands

The BCCI officials are likely to challenge the CoA's recommendations.

The BCCI officials will cite the mistakes of the CoA and will make the most of the instances, where the CoA did not adhere to a standard protocol of calling general body meetings for policy decisions.

Officials believe the CoA is interfering in technical matters which is not their domain.
