IPL 2019: MI beat KKR, here are the records broken
Mumbai Indians ousted Kolkata Knight Riders from the ongoing 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. KKR needed a win to qualify for the play-offs, but a disciplined MI didn't let that happen. Batting first, KKR were restricted to 133/7. MI then batted sensibly to win the match at home. Here is the list of records broken in the tie.
Some superb feats for MI bowlers
Lasith Malinga (3/35) extended his lead as the highest wicket-taker in IPL history. He now has 169 scalps. He also has the second highest wickets for MI this season (15). Jasprit Bumrah (2/31) raced to 17 scalps in IPL 12. He now has 80 wickets to his name. JB equalled Irfan Pathan's tally (80 scalps). Hardik Pandya (2/20) has taken 14 scalps this season.
Russell registers maiden duck this term, Lynn crosses 400 runs
Andre Russell registered his maiden duck this season. Chris Lynn (41) became the 12th player to surpass 400 runs this term (405). He was the second player from KKR to achieve the feat. Nitish (26) went past Lendl Simmons and Kedar Jadhav in terms of career IPL runs (1,085). Quinton de Kock (30) needs eight more to surpass 500 runs this season (492).
Rohit slams 36th career IPL fifty
Rohit Sharma became the third player to hit 50 fours in IPL 2019 after David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan. He also smashed his third fifty of the season and a 36th career IPL fifty as well.
How did the match pan out?
KKR got off to a decent start, before Shubman Gill and Lynn fell in quick succession. From there on, MI bowled superbly to restrict KKR. Only three batsmen got to double digits. In reply, MI got off to a flier. Quinton de Kock was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna, before skipper Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav steered the side home with 23 balls to spare.
