Manchester City returned to winning ways in style with a thumping 5-2 win over Southampton in the Premier League. With this victory, City have opened up a 14-point lead at the top. Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bruyne both scored twice as City delivered a superb response to their defeat in Sunday's Manchester derby. Here are the records broken.
City emerge triumphant in a thumping 5-2 affair
City opened the scoring with KDB finding the net in the 15th minute. The goal was canceled out by James Ward-Prowse's penalty. However, goals from Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan secured City a two-goal advantage at half-time. Mahrez and De Bruyne then scored a goal each in either side of a Che Adams strike. City also had a penalty turned down.
De Bruyne and Mahrez scripts these records
De Bruyne has now been involved in 16 goals this season (G5 A11). Riyad Mahrez became the seventh player to score 50+ left footed goals in the Premier League. The other players here are Robbie Fowler, Robin van Persie, Ryan Giggs, Mo Salah, Romelu Lukaku, and Olivier Giroud. Mahrez now has nine Premier League goals this season and an overall 66.

City have now scored five-plus goals in 23 Premier League matches since Pep Guardiola took charge in 2016-17. That's more than double any other team during this period (Liverpool and Spurs on 11 each)
Gundogan scored his 10th league goal of 2021
Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan scored his 10th league goal of 2021, one of four players in Europe's top five leagues to reach double figures this year, after Robert Lewandowski (14), Lionel Messi (12) and Andre Silva (10).
