WATCH: Milestone man Sunil Chhetri's message to fans
Indian football team skipper Sunil Chhetri is set to script another milestone. The Bengaluru FC captain will be playing his 100th match for India, when the Blue Tigers take on Kenya in the international friendly on June 4. The record goal-scorer thrived once again as India beat Chinese Taipei 5-0 riding on Chhetri's sublime hat-trick. Here is Sunil's emotional message to the fans.
Scream at us, but come watch us: Sunil Chhetri
Come and support us, pleads Chhetri
Chhetri has urged fans to come and support the Indian football team at every possible opportunity. This comes after India's match against the Chinese Taipei had a minimal turnout in Mumbai. Chhetri pleaded the fans to come and watch them play. He stated although their level may not be like European football, but the team will try its best to make fans' time worth.
Game against Chinese Taipei had poor attendance
In the match against Chinese Taipei, the official attendance was only 2,569. A lot of the credit goes to a group called 'Blue Pilgrims', who were cheering for India all evening. India are currently ranked 97th in the world and are in good form under coach Stephen Constantine. They will be hoping to see off Kenya on Monday.
Fans need to stop being biased towards Indian football
Youngsters have become inclined towards European football. This 'idolizing' of big-clubs has seen them criticize Indian leagues and their style of football. With the national team growing in stature, it's time for fans to come out and support what Chhetri and Co. have to offer.
