Saurashtra reached the semi-final of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season after defeating Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. Needing 372 runs to win their quarter-final match, Saurashtra scripted history as they chased down the highest total in the history of the tournament. Cheteshwar Pujara scored an unbeaten 67 and his 136-run stand with Sheldon Jackson (73*) helped Saurashtra win the tie.
Harvik Desai scores ton as Saurashtra break Assam's record
Saurashtra joined the likes of Kerala, defending champions Vidarbha and Karnataka in the semis. The side scripted a perfect turnaround after conceding a 177-run lead in the first innings. Harvik Desai (116) scored a maiden ton in Ranji Trophy to lead the chase for Saurashtra in Lucknow. The win helped Saurashtra surpass the previous record of 371 set by Assam against Services in 2008-09.

Desai, who had hit the winning runs for India U-19 team in the World Cup last year, shared a 132-run opening partnership with Snell Patel (72). From there on the side maintained the scoring rate, but lost two quick wickets. Pujara and Jackson ensured that there were no further hiccups as they mastered the record run-chase.

The win sees Saurashtra set up a last-four clash against Karnataka. Saurashtra have been two-time finalists in the Ranji Trophy. Vidarbha are the favorites to win the title this season after routing minnows Uttarakhand in the quarters. Indian cricket team pacer Umesh Yadav picked a five-for in his side's splendid victory. Vidarbha won by an innings and 115 runs.
