Women sexually assaulted on train by Chelsea fans, police investigate

    What's the story

It has been revealed that a few fans of Premier League side Chelsea sexually assaulted women on a train recently, and even sang racist songs while traveling from London's Paddington station to Worcester.

After racially abusing Raheem Sterling and singing anti-Semitic songs in the Europa League match against Vidi, this is the newest crime committed by a section of Chelsea supporters.

    Details follow.

    Statement

British Transport Police have issued a statement

The British Transport Police, in their statement to the media, said that the Chelsea supporters who boarded the train had sung those racist songs in the presence of children and families who were present on the train.

It also stated that these very people, who have been estimated to be a group of around 20 persons, sexually assaulted a number of female passengers onboard.

    Information

The police have appealed to the public for assistance

In their statement, the British Transport Police have urged any witnesses of the heinous incident to come forward to assist the investigation, and even encouraged the women who had been assaulted to make their cases heard.

    Observation

Why the sudden increase in racial abuse from English fans?

While an exact finger cannot be put on any particular thing to explain the sudden racism being demonstrated by some Chelsea fans, it has been argued by anti-racism campaigner Piara Powar that the Brexit referendum and its after-effects have had a role to play.

Even Aubameyang found a banana thrown at him during the recently concluded North London derby.

    Steps

Chelsea have been taking steps to deal with the issue

Chelsea had taken certain fans and officials to Auschwitz in October last year to give them an educational tour on the harmful effects of anti-Semitism.

Moreover, they fined four supporters for pushing a black person off a metro and chanting proudly about their racist tendencies.

Chelsea have also become very careful in handing away match tickets to avoid such unwarranted incidents.
