Tim Southee predicts top run-scorers for Champions Trophy 2025

Former New Zealand cricketer Tim Southee has named Kane Williamson and Australia's Travis Head as potential top run-scorers for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, starting February 19.
In a video shared by the ICC, Southee highlighted Williamson's impressive ODI record and adaptability across various conditions.
He also spoke about how Head 'is a dangerous player' and would like the wickets in Pakistan.

In the ICC video, Southee praised Williamson saying, "I think wickets would be pretty good in Pakistan. Kane Williamson would be up there (among the top run-getters). Just think about his ability to adapt to different conditions."
He further emphasized on his experience and success in various conditions stating, "We have seen his experience in different conditions"
Since debuting in 2010, Williamson has amassed 6,810 runs from 165 ODIs at an average of 48.64, with 13 centuries and 45 fifties.

Williamson's Champions Trophy performance and New Zealand's journey
Williamson has featured in six ICC Champions Trophy matches across the 2013 and 2017 editions, amassing 345 runs at an impressive average of 69.00.
Despite his standout performances, New Zealand failed to advance beyond the group stage in both editions.
They will begin their 2025 campaign against Pakistan on February 19 in Karachi, with subsequent matches against Bangladesh and India.
Head's potential
Southee backs Travis Head as potential top run-scorer
Southee also tipped Australian left-hander Head as a strong contender for the tournament's top run-scorer.
He spoke about the Aussie and stated, "Maybe Travis Head as well, I think he is a dangerous player. He has been a standout in the ODI World Cup last edition."
Since his ODI debut in 2016, Head has featured in 69 matches, scoring 2,645 runs at an impressive average of 44.08, (SR: 104.05).
He has six centuries and 16 fifties, (best score: 154*).

Head has featured in the 2017 Champions Trophy, in three matches, scoring 71* in the sole innings he batted against England.
Meanwhile, Australia's campaign will kick off with a blockbuster clash against England in Lahore on February 22.
The team will also take on South Africa and Afghanistan later in the tournament.
Southee was confident of Australia's historical strength in world events, saying, "I am sure they will be there near the end this time as well."
