Champions Trophy: Moin Khan urges India to honor ICC commitments
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet confirmed its participation in the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Pakistan. This marks the first time that such a prestigious International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament will take place on Pakistani soil. The last time India participated in a cricket event in Pakistan was during the Asia Cup back in 2008.
ICC's stance on Champions Trophy location
Despite the uncertainty surrounding India's participation, the ICC has no plans to change the venue of the Champions Trophy. Geoff Allardice, Chief Executive of ICC, confirmed this stance earlier. The last time Pakistan visited India for a bilateral series was in 2012-13. In the previous Asia Cup hosted by Pakistan, India played their matches in Sri Lanka and emerged as champions.
Moin Khan's warning to India amid Champions Trophy uncertainty
Former Pakistan wicketkeeper, Moin Khan, has issued a stern warning to India in light of the ongoing uncertainty. Speaking to Cricket Pakistan, he emphasized that India should honor its ICC commitments. He suggested that if Team India fails to do so, Pakistan might consider not participating in future tournaments hosted by India. "In my view, Indian cricket legends should advise the BCCI to keep sports separate from politics," said Khan.
India-Pakistan rivalry extends to hockey
The traditional rivalry between India and Pakistan extends beyond cricket, with both nations set to compete in the Asian Champions Trophy in hockey. Harmanpreet Singh will lead the Indian team as table toppers, while Ammad Butt will captain Pakistan as the second placed team. Despite their intense competition, both teams have maintained an unbeaten streak in this tournament so far.
