Why no PCB official attended the Champions Trophy presentation ceremony
What's the story
India emerged as the champions of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy after beating New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
However, the tournament was marred by the absence of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) representatives during the presentation ceremony.
Despite being the hosts of the tournament, no member from the PCB was seen on the stage.
The absence has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions in cricketing circles.
Representation issue
PCB chairman did not attend closing ceremony
Former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar was also confused over the absence of PCB representatives on social media.
He said, "India have won the Champions Trophy, but I noticed something rather strange. There wasn't a single representative from the PCB on the podium, even though Pakistan was the host of the tournament."
The controversy intensified as it was learned that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi did not travel to Dubai for the closing ceremony.
Protocol adherence
Sumair Ahmed, PCB's representative
Instead of Naqvi, Sumair Ahmed, the tournament director for the Pakistan leg of the Champions Trophy, was sent as PCB's representative.
However, strict protocols prevented non-elected members from taking to the podium.
This rule applied to all participating countries and their representatives during the trophy presentation ceremony.
Even Andre Russell, who managed the Dubai leg of the Champions Trophy, was also not invited on stage due to these protocols.
India
India played their matches in Dubai
As mentioned, India beat New Zealand in the final to win their third Champions Trophy title, the most for a side.
The Rohit Sharma-led Team India won the tournament unbeaten, winning their five games.
Notably, India played all their games in Dubai, instead of Pakistan, due to political issues. Therefore, the first semi-final and final were reserved for Dubai.
