Atletico, Dortmund register wins in UCL: List of records broken
The first legs of the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League 2019-20 season saw defenders Liverpool get beaten by Atletico, whereas, Borussia Dortmund overcame Paris Saint-Germain 2-1. For Dortmund, Erling Braut Haaland scored a brace to help his side win at home. Meanwhile, Saul's goal was enough for Atletico to claim victory. Here are the records broken.
Dortmund extend tally, PSG's away form a worry
Dortmund have progressed from each of their previous four UCL knockout ties when winning the first leg. PSG have only won two of their past nine away games in the Champions League knockout stages (D1 L6), losing four of the past five. Meanwhile, Dortmund's past 24 goals in the Champions League have come from open play. This is the best run among the clubs.
Sensational Haaland scripts these records
Haaland is only the second player to score 10 UCL goals as a teenager, after Kylian Mbappe (13), and the first to do so in a single campaign in the competition. The teenager has scored 11 goals in seven games for Dortmund, the most of any player for a club in the top five European leagues (all competitions) since his debut in January.
Contrasting feats for Liverpool and Atletico
Since the start of last season, Liverpool have lost six of their 10 away games in the Champions League. Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has failed to win all seven of his away games against Spanish clubs in the Champions League. Atletico have won 12 of their last 13 home matches in all major European competitions. They have registered 11 clean sheets.
Saul smashes these records, Oblak's tally increases
Saul's opener for Atletico in three minutes and 46 seconds was the earliest Liverpool have conceded in the Champions League since Gabriel Jesus' second minute strike for Manchester City in April 2018. Meanwhile, Saul became only the second player to score 10 Champions League goals for Atletico, after Antoine Griezmann (21). Since 2013-14, Jan Oblak has kept 26 clean sheets in 49 UCL games.
