Champions League 2018-19: Here's a look at all magical comebacks
The UEFA Champions League 2018-19 has reached its business end, with English giants Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur set to lock horns with each other in the final on June 1. It has been an interesting season overall, with a number of teams coming from behind to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat. Here, we analyze all such comebacks of this 'miracle' season.
Ajax too good for Real Madrid
Dutch giants Ajax produced one of the most surprising campaigns this season. It all started when they knocked defending champions Real Madrid out of the tournament in the pre-quarters. While they suffered a heartbreak defeat (1-2) at home, hardly anyone believed that they would turn things around at Santiago Bernabeu. Not just they won in Madrid, they brutalized Los Blancos 4-1 to win 5-3.
United stun Paris Saint-Germain
English giants Manchester United played an amazing game when they came from behind to tame French champions Paris Saint-Germain in Paris. PSG had an upper hand with a comfortable 2-0 lead in the first-leg. However, United refused to give up in Paris. While PSG scored the opener, United scored three back-to-back goals to stun the crowd, as they won on away goals.
Tottenham breach City walls
Tottenham Hotspur have played some amazing football this term. Although they were not behind in the opening leg at home, winning it 1-0, Manchester City fought back in the return leg. However, Tottenham played smart football to keep scoring. Despite City winning the second leg 4-3, it was the magic of Son Heung-min and Fernando Llorente's away goals that send them through.
Liverpool subdue Messi magic
Liverpool have been playing stylish football in Europe since the last two seasons. However, their greatest test came against Spanish champions Barcelona in the semis. Barca put the home advantage to full use as they won 3-0, while critics said that it was mission impossible for the Reds in the second leg. However, Liverpool was able to subdue Lionel Messi, as they won 4-0.
Tottenham make it two in a row
Tottenham were not done just by taming City. Their took their magic to the next level against Ajax in the semis. Dutch, who have been ruthless this season, did enjoy a slender 1-0 win in London. While they were two goals up in the home leg as well, Tottenham bounced back to score three in a row and qualify on away goals.
