Rajasthan Royals spinner Yuzvendra Chahal went for plenty of runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 50 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season on Thursday. Chahal, who is the highest wicket-taker in IPL history, conceded 62 runs from his four overs. He failed to take a wicket. This is now his costliest spell in the competition. SRH managed 201/3 in 20 overs.
Chahal loses his way against SRH
Chahal gave away only seven runs in his first over. He was smashed for a four by Travis Head, who attacked him in the former's second over, clobbering 18 runs. Chahal came to bowl again in the 13th over as he conceded 21 runs. Nitish Reddy plundered him for runs. In his final over, Chahal gave away 16 runs as Heinrich Klaasen took control.

As per ESPNcricinfo, the 62 runs conceded by Chahal versus SRH, is the most he has given away in an IPL innings. He clocked 1/54 versus Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this season. Notably, Chahal has conceded 50-plus runs in an IPL innings for the fifth time in his career (also 2/51 versus MI (2015), 0/50 versus KKR (2014) and 1/50 versus PBKS (2023).
Chahal concedes six sixes for the second time
Chahal was smoked for six sixes in this match against SRH. As per Cricbuzz, it is now the joint most the veteran spinner has conceded in the IPL alongside six sixes versus MI at the Wankhede in 2015.
