CEAT Cricket Rating Awards 2024: Rohit, Kohli bag honors
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli among other Indian cricket team stars bagged honors in the recently-concluded 26th CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) Awards edition held in Mumbai on August 21. Rohit, who led India to the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup title, was adjudged the CEAT Men's International Cricketer of the Year. The prestigious event by India's tire manufacturing company, CEAT, celebrates the ground-breaking achievements of Indian cricketers and other sports leaders throughout the year.
Rohit named CEAT Men's International Cricketer of the Year
As mentioned, India's ODI and Test skipper Rohit was bestowed with the CEAT Men's International Cricketer of the Year title. He expressed his gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a humbling experience and an acknowledgment of his hard work and determination. The award has further motivated him to continue pushing boundaries on the cricket field. Under Rohit's leadership, India went on to win their second men's T20 World Cup title.
Kohli, Shami bag ODI awards
Virat Kohli was honored as the Men's ODI Batter of the Year, while Mohammad Shami clinched the title of Men's ODI Bowler of the Year. Both Kohli and Shami were at their best in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, where India finished as the runners-up. The former starred with a record 765 runs at 95.62, while Shami finished with the most wickets (24 at 10.70). He took three five-wicket hauls.
Jaiswal, Ashwin bag Test awards
Yashasvi Jaiswal was honored as the Men's Test Batter of the Year, while Ravichandran Ashwin clinched the title of Men's Test Bowler of the Year. Jaiswal made a fine start to Test cricket in 2023, having tallied over 1,000 runs in nine games. As per statistician Kausthub Gudipati, Jaiswal became the third Indian to convert his first three Test tons into 150-plus scores. In February, Indian spinner Ashwin became the second-fastest to 500 wickets in Test cricket.
Special honors for Dravid, Shah
Rahul Dravid received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution as a player and coach to cricket. In a career that spanned 16 years, Dravid smashed over 24,000 international runs with 48 centuries. As a coach, Dravid led India to the coveted T20 World Cup title in 2024. Meanwhile, Jay Shah received the Award for Excellence in Sports Administration. He is tipped as a potential successor to ICC Chairman Greg Barclay.
